Two Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is an additional protection measure for your Apple ID designed to ensure that lone you can access your account smooth if someone else knows the password.

How does it work

• By two-factor authentication, only you can access your account on a trusted device or the web.
• Once you log in to a new device for the first time, you will need to provide two pieces of information.
• The Password and the six-digit verification code are automatically displayed on your trusted devices or sent to your phone number.
• Through entering the code, you verify that you trust the new device. E.g., if you have an iPhone and log into your account for the first time on a newly purchased Mac.
• You will be encouraged to enter your Password and the six-digit verification code that is automatically displayed on the iPhone.
• Since your Password alone is no longer sufficient to access your account, two-factor authentication significantly improves.
• The security of your Apple ID, as well as all the personal information you store with Apple.

Trusted devices

• A trusted device is an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch with iOS 9 or later, or a Mac with OS X El Capitan or advanced where you have already signed in with two-factor authentication.
• It’s a device that we know is yours, and that can be used to verify your identity by displaying an Apple verification code when you sign in on another device or browser.
• An Apple Watch through watchOS 6 or later can obtain verification codes when you sign in with your Apple ID.
• But it cannot function as a trusted device for resetting passwords.

Trusted phone numbers

• A righthand phone number is a number that can be used to receive verification codes via text message or automated phone call.
• You necessity verify at least one trusted phone number to sign up for two-factor authentication.
• It would be best if you also considering the idea of verifying an additional phone number that you can access.
• Such as your home number or that of a close family member or friend. You can use this number if you are temporarily unable to access your primary number or your own devices.

Verification codes

• A verification code is a provisional code sent to the trusting device or phone number once you sign in to a new practice or browser with your Apple ID.

• Click on Security.
• Click Enable two-factor authentication.
